Pattern Draping Demonstration Hosted by Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation
10 AM – 12 PM
**Due to logging in the Plantation side of the park, the location of the demonstration has been moved to the Ridley Creek State Park Office/Mansion building.**
Commercial clothing patterns were not available until the mid 19th century. Prior to that, garments were custom made for individuals. One way of achieving this was a method referred to as “draping,” in which scrap fabric, or more commonly the lining fabric, was pinned onto the individual using their undergarments and then cut into the desired shape. Those pieces were then used as the pattern for the outer fabric. Come out to the Plantation from 10:00am to 12:00pm and watch as we drape a lovely new robe a l’anglaise for one of our staff members. Please note, this is not a workshop. Attendees will not be draping their own garments. However, Eva Mergen will be demonstrating and discussing all steps in the process and there will be plenty of opportunities for questions.
Ages 12 and up please. Member fee is $6.00, $10.00 for non-members.
