K-Y Intimacy Experiment Day 5: Bring on the Fun and Games

Earlier in our relationship, Joe and I did some really fun and adventurous things together. Going to amusement parks and riding all of the fastest rides and roller coasters, going deep sea fishing, racing go karts…we were always finding new and exciting things to try as a couple. Many of these things were spontaneous and thrilling. I have to admit, I do miss the energy that these little adventures brought to our relationship.

Despite all of the negativity we talked about when it comes to being so comfortable, today we focus more on how being comfortable with one another can also be a good thing. Because of the trust between us, it is certainly true that I am far more inclined to try things with Joe that I have never tried before without fear of feeling silly or embarrassed. Being adventurous together certainly can bring new excitement to the otherwise humdrum daily schedules we follow.

Today’s experiment encourages us to be adventurous. Try something new with your partner such as singing karaoke together, taking dance lessons, heading to an amusement park (without the kids) or do stand up comedy or improv. According to one study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, “couples who participate in fun, new (nonsexual) activities together enjoy higher quality relationships than those who stick to the same-old, same-old.” Hey, all the more reason to get planning!

Although they may not be quite as adventurous as some of the activities we enjoyed together years ago, we are actively scheduling some fun upcoming dates with one another (and without the kids). I am looking forward to taking Joe roller skating (or ice skating) and Joe would love for me to try jet skiing with him. Heck, just thinking about all of these little adventures are making me feel young and in love again! I wish we actually had more time to make them happen on a regular basis. Oh well, I guess I better get working on some fun games that we can play at home (wink, wink).

If you are interested in participating in your own experiment, the experiment is free and can be found by clicking the K-Y Intimacy Experiment tab on the K-Y Brand Couple’s Page on Facebook. In the mean time, I will be checking in daily to tell you more about my own experiences.

Disclosure: I wrote this posting while participating in a blog campaign on behalf of K-Y® Brand and also received product samples to help facilitate my review. All opinions and experiences in this article are solely my own.
