We try to schedule a family movie night once a week at our house. We take turns picking the movies, pop a nice big bowl of popcorn and snuggle on the couch as a family. It’s one of my favorite nights of the week.
This week our film of the week was The Cat and the Hat. I have been a fan of Dr. Seuss since I was a kid so I was as excited as my kids to sit back and enjoy the show. Perfect for the whole family, The Cat in the Hat original animated TV show has been fully remastered in this new deluxe edition set DVD & BluRay and is set to be released on August 7, 2012.
The movie tells the story of Dick and Sally, home alone with nothing to do as the rain is pouring down outside. All of that changes in a flash as they are visited by the always energetic and hilarious Cat in the Hat and suddenly the fun and chaos begin. Embarking on a mad search for the Cat’s “moss covered, three handled family gredunza”, The Cat and his mischievous friends Thing One and Thing Two manage to turn the house upside down as Mr. Krinklebein, the family’s cynical pet goldfish looks on. Filled with happy, energetic song and continuous rhyme, it isn’t until Dick and Sally hear their Mother coming home that they realize what a mess the house has become. The question looms – However will they clean up this mess before their mother walks through the door?
Sitting down and watching this film with my kids got me feeling nostalgic. I’ve been reading Dr.Seuss to my kids since they were babies and I loved hearing them as a kid myself. Watching the story of The Cat in the Hat come to life again on DVD had us all smiling, laughing and rhyming right along with the characters. (Yes – I have warned you – the rhyming from this movie can be highly contagious!) What a wonderful, wholesome way to enjoy some good old family time. Even better – the DVD also includes two additional Dr. Seuss classics – Daisy-Head Mayzie and The Hoober-Bloob Highway.
If your family is a fan of Dr.Seuss like mine, this movie is a perfect classic to add to your family’s collection. The Blu-Ray version will retail for $24.98 SRP and the standard DVD will retail for $19.97 SRP.
