Sandcastle Building with Sandman Matt at the Blogger Beach Bash

Last week, my kids and I packed up and headed to Avalon to meet up with local Philly Social Media Moms for a day of fun in the sun.   Hosted by Joey Fortman of Real Mom Media, the event was held at the lovely Golden Inn on the beach in Avalon.  I’ll admit – I was a bit skeptical heading to the beach with two kids alone, but let me tell you – not only did we have a blast, but there was so much to do that my kids could not have been more well behaved.  I was so proud of them.

The highlight of the day was hanging out with Sand Master Matt of the Travel Channel.  We got an up close and personal look at his talents as he created this incredible sandcastle.  We ohh and ahh’d at the intricate and beautiful design.  After a bit of observing, Sandman Matt invited us all to gather around and learn how to build castles for ourselves.  As the kids surrounded him, he patiently explained how to build the perfect castle using his awesome Can You Dig It Sandtools.  He explained that mixing sand with water acts as a “glue” to keep the sand together.  The kids worked as a team to stir, pat and mold the sand as Sandman Matt talked them through it.  Before we knew it, kids were gathered all around making sandcastles of their own.  Sandman Matt has this sandcastle building down to a science and explains all of his greatest tips and tricks in a cool sandcastle instructional video DVD – perfect for anyone looking to learn new techiniques.

Sandcastle building certainly is hard work!  My daughter stopped to quench her thirst with some refreshing, anioxidant-packed Bai drinks. Yum!

When our sandcastles were complete and we had our fill of jumping the waves, we headed back to the Golden Inn for a delicious lunch, PopChips (my kids new favorite snacks), and Honest Tea (super refreshing and not too sweet).  For dessert, we were treated to mouth-wateringly delicious cupcakes from Truly Custom Cakery (OMG – Can you say heaven??)

I cannot begin to express how much fun my family and I had!  What a perfect way to spend some good old-fashioned family time. We cannot wait to head back to the beach to work on our sandcastle building techniques using our new Can You Dig It Sand Tools!  I also heard that the Golden Inn is sponsoring a promotion for a Girlfriends Getaway valued at $1000!  How generous is that?  You have no idea just how much I could use a girls weekend away – and I cannot think of a more relaxing place to spend it then at the beautiful Golden Inn! Let’s just say I’ll be keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed!!

Many thanks to all of the other sponsors who made this day possible including the lovely, talented and uber creative Denise Sabia from The Painted Home, Jordan Schneider- Insurance and Financial Planning Services , Suddenly SafeVisitAC and of course, The Golden Inn for being such a gracious host to our group.

What else can I say but…

Disclosure: As an attendee of this event, my family and I enjoyed complimentary lunch, snacks, a Can You Dig It SandTool kit and a generous swag bag.  All expressed opinions are my own and have in no way been influenced.
