Holiday Gift Guide 2012- Boys 8 and Up- Air Storm Z-Tek Crossbow from Zing {Review}

This holiday season, I am realizing now that my son is getting older that finding non electronic toys that he really enjoys is getting so much harder. It is so important that toys that peak and keep his interest are hands on, fun and involve some type of skill.  I was introduced to the Air Storm Z-Tek Crossbow by Zing while attending the Time to Play Holiday Showcase in New York last month. After learning a little about the crossbow, I had no doubt that this would be something my son would really enjoy.

A safer and fun alternative to a real crossbow, the Air Storm Z-Tek Crossbow comes with Rubberized “Zarts” that stick to any surface for 15-30 seconds when fired then instantly release on their own. Unlike a sharp dart, the Zarts are made of a soft rubber and are rounded on the tip. Designed for kids ages 8 and up, my 10-year-old was able to easily lock and load the Zarts without any directions or help. It is fairly simple for an older child to do on his own although it does take a bit of strength to pull back the rubberized power cords to clip over the firing pin. A younger child would most likely need assistance and should be supervised when using the toy for safety. I was especially happy to see that the crossbow has a built in safety lock which must be released each time before the crossbow is fired. Safety is always a priority and concern when it comes to my children playing with toys and this feature allows me to feel more at ease knowing that there is a safety feature to prevent accidental misfiring of the Zarts.

The set comes with a cardboard mega target, which can be placed on any surface to practice shooting and competing with friends for points. While in the house, my son shoots everything from the ceiling to the walls to the refrigerator door. Meant for indoor and outdoor use, my son is always thinking up new places and ways to enjoy his new crossbow – but I would be especially careful to set limits when using indoors. This crossbow is the real deal, shooting as far as 45 feet! WOWZERS!
