Last evening, my family and I enjoyed the best family night out together laughing and having a genuinely great time watching the Harlem Globetrotters in action at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The last time I saw the Harlem Globetrotters live, I was a child. I attended a game with my grade school basketball team, and I can still remember laughing and cheering with my teammates. I was thrilled for the opportunity to expose my kids to that same enthusiasm and energy, and it was pure joy to experience the fun with them last evening. The best part of family time, I believe, is creating memories that will last a lifetime. Tonight’s game certainly was one of those moments.
The game was filled with energy and humor from start to finish. The non stop fun included everything from game play to interaction with the crowd to hip hop dance performances to hilarious pranks on members of the other team. Watching the Globetrotters glide up and down the court and back again while showing off their fancy footwork and amazing tricks was just awesome! These guys (and gal) make the game of basketball appear absolutely effortless! Their natural talent was simply incredible and the high energy kept the crowd entertained the entire game. Best of all, this game included audience choice rules including things like two basketballs during game play, double points for every basket, 6 players against 5, penalty box for fouls or 4 point shots. That’s right – the audience decided which rules they wanted prior to the game by voting online HERE.
I loved how the team interacted with the crowd and allowed select spectators onto the court to participate in various skits. Watching the magic and joy in the eyes of the children that were chosen was so sweet. The players really go out of their way to have a good time and show their appreciation for the fans.
The team mascots were also absolutely hysterical! Before the game and during intermission the team mascots, Globie and his brother Big G, strutted their stuff and showed off some of the silliest antics of the night. Big G sure can dance; let me tell you – he had our family belly laughing throughout his performance. The mascots were so entertaining, they could quite possibly have a show of their own. I loved every minute of watching them.
The two hours flew by and my kids were well behaved the entire time. At the end of the game, players welcomed fans onto the court for pictures and autographs. What a perfect end to an absolutely fantastic family night out!
The Harlem Globetrotters “You Write the Rules” Tour certainly appeals to all ages and makes for an enjoyable family night out. I highly recommend checking out the show. Right now you can save $7 per ticket by using the promo code “TOGETHER“. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
My kids are already asking if we can see them again next time they come back to Philadelphia.
My response?
“Around our house you know who Writes the Rules – but in this case, I’ll let you decide.”
It is no surprise – the vote is in!
It’s unanimous – there will definitely be more Harlem Globetrotters games in our future!
Disclosure: My family and I received tickets to attend the Harlem Globetrotters game. All opinions, as always, are my own.
