Do you have any little geography fanatics like mine in your house? If so, you absolutely must check out Little Passports . Little Passports is a fun and innovative explorer kit that is perfect for both entertaining and educating young children. Basically, kids can travel the world via these fun kits that arrive in the mail on a monthly basis. I don’t know about you, but my kids LOVE receiving their own mail, which makes this gift choice even more exciting for the kids as they await its arrival each month.
Starting at $10.95 per month (with a nice range of subscription options to choose from), a kit will be shipped to your favorite child each month highlighting a new location. Characters Sam and Sofia lead the kids on adventures while kids learn all about fun new places in the USA and the world. You have the option of choosing a World or States Edition. In the World Edition (Recommended age 5 to 10 years old), they travel to a new country each month. In the USA edition (Recommended age 7 to 12 years old), kids experience two new states each month. Kits include everything from journals and cameras to passports, maps and postcards to pop out models, online game access and a load of information. The World Edition also comes with a darling suitcase to store all of the items and information your kids receive and the States Edition comes with a cool plastic portfolio for storage.
My family and I chose to review the USA Edition. Although the World kit probably would have been more age appropriate for my 5-year-old daughter, I decided to choose the USA version because my 10-year-old-son is currently studying the states in school and I thought this would be a great way to keep him excited about his learning. We received two months to review. The first month’s kit included a nifty and durable plastic folder for storing and carrying all of the items from the kit. In addition, enclosed was a letter from Sam and Sofia (which explains the story of their magical scooter and a little of what to expect from your travels with them), a field guide, a full size USA wall map (both kids have been enjoying pointing out states on the map and asking tons of questions about places we may visit, where my husband and I have been and how far a given place is from another), a USA scratch book (which both kids are enjoying sharing), a disposable camera and a photo scavenger hunt. The second month’s kit included an Alaska and South Carolina travel journal filled with information, stories and activities to highlight each state, two bright state inspired postcards, 3D pop out models of an Alaskan Float plane and a South Carolina Mansion and bright field guide stickers for each state. In addition, aside from enjoying the actual contents to the kit, kids are encouraged to continue their journeys online at the Little Passports website. My son absolutely LOVED this! He couldn’t wait to go online for more exploration. I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to see both kids so eager to learn about our country. This kit has made them more eager than ever to want to travel and explore new places. And, it has been such a great way to help my son learn and remember everything his teacher is teaching about the states in school.
The recommended age for Little Passports is 5 to 12 years old. Both my 5 and 10 year old equally enjoyed the kits. My 10-year-old son was able to play independently with them and my 5-year-old daughter loved sitting with me as I read to her and we explored the kit together. My family gives Little Passports a huge thumbs up – and I highly recommend these as a wonderful gift idea for kids – or teachers! Click on the banner below and use code FALL10 to save 10%!
