Muir Glen and Local Food Trucks Sum Pig and Street Food Philly Give the Gift of Delicious Tomatoes to Philadelphia

On October 15th in Philadelphia, hundreds of people turned out to “pick” one of 300 tomato-themed gift boxes off the ground of City Hall’s courtyard and enjoy a complimentary lunch thanks to Muir Glen tomatoes and local food trucks Sum Pig and Street Food Philly.  Imagine the fun of seeing a “tomato field” pop up right in the middle of Center City!

During the event, 300 red boxes, complete with green hang tags, lined the plaza, creating the look of a gorgeous field of tomatoes.  Consumers were welcomed to “pick” up a box as a delicious gift.  Inside, each box contained a free can of Muir Glen’s organic tomatoes, a recipe card and a voucher for a free meal made with delicious, mouth-watering menu items featuring Muir Glen organic tomatoes from local food trucks Street Food Philly and Sum Pig. At 11am City Councilman David Oh and Thomas Rossomando from the Governor’s Action Team opened a giant gift box containing a donation of more than 2,600 cans of Muir Glen tomatoes to Philabundance.  In addition, for each box picked and each free meal coupon redeemed, another was donated to Philabundance.  If you are not already familiar, I will share that Philabundance is the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, and their mission is “to reduce hunger and food insecurity throughout the region by providing food access to people in need in partnership with organizations and individuals”.  What a wonderfully worthy cause!

Now through November 10th, locals can continue to sample the incredible taste of special recipes created with Muir Glen tomatoes from Sum Pig and Street Food Philly.  In partnership with these two local food trucks, Muir Glen will donate an additional 1,000 cans of tomatoes to Philabundance for a grand total of 3,500 cans from October 15th through November 10th.

This event was created as a part of a larger, “Picked for Flavor” ad campaign, aiming to showcase the Muir Glen mission “to grow not only great tasting tomatoes, but also tomatoes that help preserve the planet.”  Yes, as you can see – even outside of the tomato season, you can still enjoy delicious, moth-watering tomatoes that shine in all of your favorite recipes.  For more information about Muir Glen tomatoes, products and recipe ideas, be sure to visit www.MuirGlen.com.

  2. Right now, we EXCLUSIVELY use Muir Glen. While I’d love to aspire to make one of these more heady creations, their sauce and tomatoes are so good, I can just dump them over some grass fed chopped meat and organic squash, and I’m DONE!
