This weekend my family and I were thrilled for the opportunity to check out an advance screening of The Lego Movie. My kids have been looking forward to seeing the film for quite sometime and each commercial that they saw on TV seemed to build their enthusiasm more and more as the weeks have passed. To be perfectly honest, I was assuming this would be more of a thrill for them than it would be for me – but I will say I was pleasantly surprised. To be perfectly honest, I loved this movie as much as the kids did.  As Emmett would say – when it comes to this movie – “Everything is Awesome!”

The Lego Movie features an all star cast including Will Ferrell, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Nelson, Morgan Freeman, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie. I must say not once did I stop to check my watch or think to get up for a stretch – this movie kept my (and my kids attention) from start to finish. The movie was chuck full of entertainment and laughs for children and adults alike. I couldn’t help but think that it had a similar feel to one of my favorite animated stories, Toy Story. A fun toy story of its own,  I was in awe at the creativity and stunning visual imagery of The Lego Movie.

If you have been thinking of seeing the movie, I say gather up your family and head out for a fun family day out! One of the main characters in the movie is a female so if you are concerned as to whether or not your girls will enjoy this as much as the boys – I can assure you that my 6-year-old daughter certainly did!

The main character Emmett, a “ordinary” construction worker, soon finds himself in a very special position, which dubs him as the “Master Builder”, with the power to save LEGO world from Lord Business and his evil Kragl. Once used to always following the rules and building according to the instructions, Emmett soon finds himself opening his mind and believing in himself and his power to be anything he believes he can be. Along the journey, Emmett is met by a slew of characters – all with “super”ish powers that help Emmett in his quest. Get ready for appearances from the fun and spunky Wyldstyle, Batman, Superman, and many other familiar Lego characters.  Yes – that is correct- if your kids are fans of Superheroes like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman – they will be sure to squeal with delight as these characters come to life in The Lego Movie.  The movie ends with a wonderful twist that reveals the real Emmett and “the story behind the story”.

If you haven’t already seen the trailer, here is a little peek at what’s in store:

Lucky for us, we were able to watch the movie in 3D and boy did it really bring the experience to another level.  Seeing the movie in 3D actually makes you feel as if you are a part of the movie itself!  If you have the chance and you enjoy 3D – definitely go for it!

There are so many things I loved about this movie, but my favorite of all was the main idea of the story line that being special is all about believing in yourself and what you are capable of doing.  What a wonderful message for everyone watching – young and old alike.  Two thumbs up for such a positive story line – with a happy and truly meaningful ending.

My son is so excited to be attending a friend’s birthday party this weekend where the boys will be heading to see The Lego Movie at our local theater!  I have no doubt that the boys are going to have an absolute blast.  The fact that my son cannot wait to see it again goes to show just how much he loved seeing this the first time around – not to mention this is such a totally awesome way to celebrate a birthday!

The Lego Movie from Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures is rated PG and opens in theaters on Friday February 7, 2014.  Enjoy the show and if you go to see it, be sure to come back and leave me a comment letting me know what you think!
