One of the things that is so great about Delaware County is the variety of events and activities that are available to local families. Whether you want to go to a local orchard, park, library or sign up for a sports camp, there are endless options. Here are a few of my top picks:

1) Go to story time at Linvilla Orchards. Did you know that Linvilla has a free storytime and craft for kids every Tuesday? Your child will hear a story featuring gardens, farming, animals and nature, then, children can create a special craft to take home! This weekly event is especially for preschoolers but your entire family is welcome to join the fun. Meet in the Linvilla Garden Center. No charge. Rain or Shine. No Registration required.

2) Kick up some fun with Future Captain Sports Camps!  Do you have an energetic 6-13 year old who loves sports? The staff at Future Captain Sports wants to keep kids on top of their game with sports and soccer camps throughout the Delaware County, PA area. With convenient camp locations in Springfield, Ridley Park Aston, and Primose, these camps are designed to inspire learning in a fun and positive environment. Learn more about Future Captain Sports Camps and save $10 when you register by June 4th and use the promo code SUMMERFUN.

3) Have an adventure at Ridley Creek State Park. With over 2,606 acres of Delaware County Woodlands and meadows, Ridley Creek State Park is a great destination for local families. Bring your bikes for a ride on the trails, have a picnic, or stop by the stables at Hidden Valley Farms.

4) Spend the day at Longwood Gardens. If you’ve been to Longwood Gardens before, you already know how spectacular it is. Longwood’s calendar of events is full of activities throughout the summer including fireworks and fountains shows that delight visitors of all ages. Celebrate Independence Day with well-loved patriotic selections such as The Olympic Fanfare, Victory at Sea, The Colonel Bogey March, The Winds of War,King’s Row, Armed Forces Medley, The Stars & Stripes, The National Anthem, and more.

5) Take advantage of free programs at your local library. Our local librarians have been busy planning summer-time events and there is something for everyone! Visiting your local library is also a great way to keep kids engaged with summer reading programs.

Are you ready for summer?  Do you have any other ideas for summer family fun?  Leave a comment and let me know.
