Disclosure: My family received a Wubble Bubble Ball to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% my own.
My kids have an informercial obsession. I had no doubt as we sat and watched the Wubble Bubble Ball commercial that it would just be a matter of time before they would be begging for one to play with! Lucky for us, we were given the opportunity to review this recently named Family Fun Toy Of The Year Award Winner (featured in the November 2014 issue of Family Fun Magazine) – and my kids could not have been more excited!
So what is Wubble Bubble Ball, you ask? According to the website, the Wubble Ball is made of “top-secret super-thermo-stretch-tacular stuff that makes it squishy, squashy, super soft and lightweight and allows it to be inflated to a gigantic THREE FEET TALL”, “Wubble Bubble Ball looks like a bubble but plays like a ball”. As my kids would say, “It looks awesome, it feels awesome and it is just plain AWESOME!”
Wubble Bubble Ball has won numerous toy awards, including an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Best Toy Award, a National Parenting Center Seal of Approval, a Mr. Dad Approved Award, a Parent’s Choice Award and the Dr. Toy Best 100 Picks Award and more! Heck, I think I was as excited as the kids to give it a try!
The kit we received came with a pump to inflate the ball. I started through all of the steps to fill up the ball and realized that the pump needed 4 “D” batteries! My kids grumbled and growled as I piled them into the car to go pick up some batteries at the store. Word of advice – if you plan to purchase a Wubble Bubble ball for yourself or a gift, be sure to pick up some “D” batteries so your children’s fun will not be temporarily put on hold like mine was!
Once we got home and put the batteries into the pump, inflating the ball was smooth sailing! It seriously couldn’t have been easier and both of my children were just as thrilled to help out with the process. There is a nifty little tape measure that you attach to the ball that lets you know how far you can safely fill it – which takes the guesswork out of when to stop. I found that this video explaining How to Inflate a Wubble Ball was super helpful in assuring that we were doing it correctly. After it was filled, we were in awe at the size! I highly suggest if you plan to play with it outdoors, be sure to bring the ball and pump outside to fill as it may be difficult to get through the doorway if you fill it while indoors.
Once outside, the kids had a blast bouncing, throwing and catching the Wubble Bubble Ball in the air. They can lay and sit on it too! My kids wiggled, wobbled, giggled and bounced until they were literally exhausted. Because it is lightweight and airy, the ball bounces and floats almost effortlessly as the kids bump and pounce it around. My kids certainly got a good workout – and had so much fun while playing. Because of its sticky surface, we did find that it collected some dirt and grass clippings but it can be easily wiped off after deflating and before stowing away for future play. It’s also best that kids avoid area with sharp objects like branches, bushes or fences which the light, airy ball could easily land on, causing a tear. Unfortunately, after a bit of play, we noticed a small hole in our ball (likely due to a branch or wood chip) and it slowly began to deflate on its own. It is important to note that Wubble Balls are not indestructible, but they have a lifetime replacement guarantee. It costs $6.99 to replace a Wubble under the guarantee – and I cannot tell you how happy this made my kids knowing that in a few days a new ball will hopefully be on its way!
Wubble Bubble Ball is conveniently available at Target, Toys R Us and online at www.wubbleball.com. You can follow along with Wubble Ball fun on Twitter @WubbleBall) and Facebook (facebook.com/wubbleball) as well!
