Celebrate Your Urban National Wildlife Refuge

Join for an early fall day of fun, food, and celebrating your very own Urban National Wildlife Refuge! On Saturday, September 29, 2018, the refuge will host FREE activities, games, outdoor skills and volunteer opportunities with help from our partners.
All are welcome to enjoy a guided hike, learn to fish, or try your hand at archery throughout the day! Public activities will be available from 10:00am – 11:00am and 12:00pm – 2:00pm with special remarks from special guests in between. Kayaking (space limited) will be running from 1:30-3:00pm, but space will be limited.
The Celebration Day will wrap up with a chance for stewardship. Friends and families of all ages are invited to give back to the refuge by assisting with planting a native shrubland or assisting our biology team with a search for mussels at the refuge from 12:00pm – 2:00pm. All equipment will be provided by the refuge.
Visitors may also start the day at 8:00 am with a 5K Fun Run hosted by the Friends of Heinz Refuge. Register online at:

The Media Environmental Advisory Council (EAC), Transition Town Media, Media Arts Council, the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia, Friends of Glen Providence Park, and other great partners have teamed up to bring residents of Media and our neighboring towns a fun, family-friendly new event that’s sure to be an annual tradition—Media Open Streets!
On Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 9am to 2pm, we’ll close down Jackson St. from 252 to 3rd St., 3rd St. from Jackson to West St., down West to State St., and down State to Glen Providence Park. Then you and your friends and family can come out and play in the streets! Anything non-motorized is allowed—bicycles, strollers, wheelchairs, skateboards, roller skates, or just your own two feet! Of course, there will be food, vendor and information tables, fun activities, and music along the way, around Borough Hall (3rd & Jackson Sts.), and at Glen Providence Park. Media Theatre will put on a short performance at the Park as well!
