Delaware County’s Festival of Lights has been a treasured tradition for more than four decades. The tradition began in 1976 as part of festivities planned to celebrate the nation’s Bicentennial. The Festival has grown from 50 lighted trees (one for each municipality and one large one to represent the County) to 75 decorated trees strung with 100,000 holiday lights, and dozens of hand-painted wooden figures, including toy soldiers, a snowman family and a replica of the Delaware County Courthouse.

Franklin Square Holiday Festival

“It’s sparkle time at Franklin Square for the 2018 Franklin Square Holiday Festival presented by CHASE, including a winter beer garden with fire pits for warmth and charm and Ben’s Sweets & Treats where guests can create and taste a variety of treats such as s’mores and gourmet hot chocolate stations inside the heated tent with views of the Square. From November 15 – December 31, dazzle in the lights of the Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show presented by PECO.
In addition to the Parx Liberty Carousel and Philly Mini Golf, additional holiday entertainment includes #FranklinSquareFridays, Santa Saturdays, Seasonal Sounds on Sundays, Lightning Bolt Holiday Express train rides around the Square, and the traditional family-friendly Kid’s New Year’s Eve Countdown and Dance Party. Celebrate many holiday traditions with Santa, the Grinch, Hanukkah, Kwanza, pets in winter festive gear, and even the princesses from Frozen. Kids are invited to bring their letters to Santa for the special Santa Mailbox, or deliver them in person to him on Santa Saturdays. Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show presented by PECO
Sparked by Benjamin Franklin’s electrifying genius, the Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show presented by PECO is the key to holiday fun in Franklin Square. Electrical Spectacle is a free light show that illuminates the Square nightly from November 15 – December 31. Marvel at more than 75,000 lights as they shimmer, dance, and illuminate the Square to a soundtrack of holiday classics, some of which are performed by The Philly POPS in two alternating shows every 30 minutes beginning at 4:30 pm daily. Every evening, one lucky audience member will be selected to kick off the evening’s festivities as the Igniter for the 4:30 pm show.”

The Miracle on South 13th Street Holiday Light Display
1600 S 13th St Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Located on South 13th Street between Tasker and Morris streets, each neighbor uses their own resources and decorations to adorn their home to reflect their personal style. The lights can be enjoyed by foot (where you can get a close up look at many neighbors’ window displays) or by driving through (please NO stopping or honking). Street Parking is extremely limited so use of public transportation is strongly encouraged (we are 2 blocks from the Tasker/Morris subway stop).
Lights are on beginning the Saturday after Thanksgiving through New Years Day from 5pm-12am. Santa and his gang occasionally visit the block–check our Facebook page for dates and times. While folks of all ages are encouraged to come and visit us, we ask that you please remember to be respectful of those that live here year round and avoid littering or any loud and unruly behavior.

The all-day Robotics workshop is for boys and girls ages 9 through 13. The cost is $85.00 per child, which includes a robot kit that the participants will build, program and take home.

This workshop meets the Girl Scouts’ requirements for all three junior robotics badges (not provided).

As stewards of their kingdoms they know the importance of leading the next generation through storytelling, dance lessons, princess lessons, and for the young lads… learning how to pirate is always fun for an afternoon.
