From star-spangled banners to five-star generals, Philadelphia celebrates the shared birthday of two of our country’s greatest institutions—the American flag and the U.S. Army.
This year’s Stripes and Stars Festival commemorates the U.S. Army’s 244th anniversary and the American flag’s 242nd birthday. The festival will take place on Friday, June 14, 2019, at locations throughout Independence National Historical Park and Historic Philadelphia, including Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, Christ Church Burial Ground, and the National Constitution Center.
Events include flag raising ceremonies, a patriotic parade, a swearing-in of Army recruits, a dramatic skydiving performance, displays and demonstrations of U.S. Army equipment, giant flag folding activities, performances by the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and a moving naturalization ceremony. Visitors can also participate in special Soldier Talks, in partnership with the “Meet Your Army” Campaign, at the National Constitution Center.

Wildlife Photowalks are designed to photograph all kinds of wildlife including birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, insects, wildflowers, etc., while we learn how to do it well and avoid wildlife photography pitfalls. We discuss technique, gear, and essential knowledge about photography and wildlife. A desire to make great wildlife images, and a good camera and lens are all that’s needed, though a lens with an effective focal length of at least 200mm to 300mm is very helpful.
Photowalks will be at a relaxed paced on flat surfaces. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers. No registration required.

It’s A Green Thing Sustainability Fair

at West Laurel Hill Cemetery and Funeral Home 225 Belmont Ave, Bala Cynwyd PA
Bike, walk, or scooter your way over to the cemetery from the Cynwyd Trail to shop and support local sustainable vendors at this family-friendly fair!
This sustainability fair will take place just inside the gates of West Laurel Hill Cemetery, at the Barmouth Station section of the trail and will showcase local artisans and businesses who are committed to making the world a greener place. There will be food trucks like Wahlburgers and Wok and Roll, live music, World Cafe Live beer garden, and a chance to tour Nature’s Sanctuary and meet West Laurel Hill’s goats!

Concerts Under the Stars: WXPN Welcomes The National Reserve

175 W Valley Forge Rd, King of Prussia, PA
Outside food is permitted, but NO outside alcohol is allowed in township parks. There will be a beer garden hosted by Workhorse Brewing Company. The beer garden opens at 5:00PM and the music begins at 6:00PM.
The concerts are held rain or shine at Township Building Park. In the instance of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors. Umbrellas are not permitted, but guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the music.
