8 Tips for Creating a Fun Cinderella Inspired Mommy Daughter Makeover Experience {& a #Cinderella Digital Download Giveaway}

My daughter turned 12 this year and suddenly my little princess is growing up.  Although she is now 12 and starting to express her independence and desire to enjoy more time with her friends and chock full calendar of activities, there is nothing I cherish more than some special Mommy-Daughter time with her.

From the time she was born, I have always called her my little princess.  Dressing up and putting on lip gloss from my makeup bag and having her hair styled just so is something she has always enjoyed.  I can still remember her watching intently as I would apply makeup before heading out to a special event. Often she would run to her room and change into her Cinderella dress then step into my high heel shoes and prance around my room with a princess wand in hand.  These are moments I can only wish I could have bottled up – I absolutely loved every second of this phase.

Fast forward to today, she’s now queen of the hair wand and follower of many beauty you tube sensations.  I know she is starting to really enjoy experimenting with hair and makeup so I thought it would be exceptionally fun to let her pamper me with a little Cinderella-inspired “Mommy Makeover” while putting some of those new skills to the test. We both really enjoy our special moments and I knew this was something we could both enjoy while relaxing, laughing and just spending some good quality time together.

As you can see, the makeover was a huge hit and we not only shared laughs but we got to talk, blast the radio, sing and have a relaxing, stress free girls afternoon together. No princess is ever too old or too young for some extra special Mommy-Daughter time.  Anytime is the perfect time to bond and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Our Mommy/Daughter Makeover idea was inspired by this year’s 70th anniversary of my daughter Hailey’s absolute favorite Disney movie, Cinderella. Recently released on DVD, the 70th Anniversary Edition of Cinderella is now also available for in-home release by digital download. Since this classic has always been a favorite of ours, I thought it would be fun to not only enjoy a makeover together, but we could follow our fun with some movie time watching Cinderella together and enjoying snacks, stories and giggles right at home on the couch.

Here are a few tips to help you create a fun Cinderella Inspired Makeover right at home:

1. Plan an outing to go shopping for supplies together or take time to select an assortment of makeup from items you have on hand . Sometimes part of the planning can be just as fun as the makeover itself.

My daughter Hailey absolutely loves heading to the mall and exploring stores like Ulta, Sephora, Five Below and Target. This is a fun opportunity to enjoy time together selecting items to add to the experience. Whether it is just a few makeup items or brushes, lotions, creams, hair products or accessories, most girls enjoy having the ability to pick out something to add to the excitement and personalize the experience to their own creative style. But also keep in mind that enjoying a fun makeover does not have to be extravagant or expensive. You can use makeup and accessories you already have on hand or enjoy time together creating homemade lipgloss or other products to work into your makeover experience.

2. Stock a basket with hair products, styling tools, hair pins, brushes and accessories. Have fun trying various styles or curls or pinning hair up in a traditional Cinderella bun. For fun you can experiment with more modern curls or waves and accessorize with clips or hair ribbons for an extra special touch.

3. Have some hair and makeup pictures on hand to follow for inspiration when creating your styles.

4. Have a few rags, make up wipes or makeup remover, cotton balls and/or Qtips within reach for easy makeup removal or quick fixes. You may also want to drape an apron, towel or cape around your clothing while applying makeup.

5. Have access to a large mirror or small hand held mirror so you can surprise each other with your before and after looks.

6. Pick out a favorite snack or two such as chips or popcorn, ice cream or special treat to share while doing makeovers together or while relaxing together after your makeovers are complete.

7. Keep your camera close by! You will want to be sure to not only capture before and after shots of your fun looks, but you will also want to grab a few selfies to capture these special moments you shared together. Making memories together is one of the greatest gifts you can give each other and it’s always even better when you can capture those moments on film forever.

8. After you are all finished with your makeovers, consider enjoying some special time watching a special movie like Cinderella and enjoying snacks, stories and snuggle time.
