Newsies – Viviana Theatre Company
July 18th – 28th
at Academy Park High School Sharon Hill, PA
Stop the presses!
This Disney film turned Tony-winning Broadway hit inspires everyone to fight for what’s right and seize the day.
Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!
Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.

Soaring at Sunset
6:30PM – 9 PM
at Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation
Join the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation for a sunset fundraiser featuring tethered hot air balloon rides, live music, food trucks, wine and beer garden, historical demonstrations and fun and games for the whole family!
The first untethered manned hot air balloon flight was performed by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d’Arlandes on November 21, 1783, in Paris, France, in a balloon created by the Montgolfier brothers. Inspired by their achievement, an American innkeeper named Peter Carnes—without any knowledge of ballooning, and based only on newspaper descriptions—built his own hot air balloon. On July 19, 1784, he launched his balloon at the Walnut Street Prison in Philadelphia.
On Friday, July 19, 2019, we will honor Peter Carnes and his French predecessors with Soaring at Sunset.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for ages 4-12, and $8 for members. Age 3 and under are free! Separate tickets to go up in the balloon will be available at the event, on a first come, first served basis. Flight tickets are $20. Fly times will be assigned so that you can go and enjoy the event without having to wait in line, and come back when it’s your turn! This is a tethered balloon, so you’ll be soaring up to 100 feet off the ground, weather permitting.
Hot Air Balloon is sponsored by WSFS, and our Beer Garden is sponsored by RetroFitness of Edgmont! Thank you for your support!
